Dr. Shadi Bartsch has Written A Number Of Books

Virtually every student wants a professor in college who will actually teach them something new. They pay a good deal of money to sit through classes which, for the most part, do not teach them much—but there are professors who are the exception to this rule. Dr. Shadi Bartsch is a professor who has relished the opportunity to learn, do research, and teach.

Dr. Shadi Bartsch is the Ann L. and Lawrence B. Buttenwieser Professor of Classics and the Program in Gender Studies at the University of Chicago. She teaches classes like Roman Comedy, History of Rhetoric, The Roman Novel, Greek Thought and Literature, Virgil, and Intermediate Latin. Her specialties are the Ancient Novel, the History of Classical Thetoric, Silver Latin Literature, Roman Stoicism, and Julio-Claudian Rome.

Shadi Bartsch attended Princeton and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelors degree. Her Masters degree in Latin came from the University of California, Berkeley. She has two Ph.D.s, one in Classical Philology from Harvard and one from the University of California, Berkley, in Classics.

Professor Shadi Bartsch has received both the Quantrell Teaching Award and the Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching. Both are prestigious prizes for high quality teaching. Dr. Shadi Bartsch has also written a number of books, authored many scholarly articles, and edited many volumes besides.
